"I was introduced to MAKIN’ MOVES in October 2014, at what was my lowest point in a very long time. My stress and anxiety levels were so high that something had to change…there was no way life could continue as it was, and I was ready to just walk away from it all and hide. For me, finding MAKIN’ MOVES and being welcomed into the dysFUNctional family has been so much more than just the free, fun, family-friendly fitness experience. It was finding a welcoming environment where I have been accepted as me, no pretenses, no perfect body in designer workout gear, but me with my baggage…emotional and physical. It has been a journey of discovery. I’ve learned to trust others, and I’m also learning to love myself and my new family unconditionally, and to celebrate our collective successes along the way. We take our queues from Chris Omni, the engine that dreams and drives MAKIN’ MOVES. Chris, your energy and passion (and compassion) fuels us to believe in ourselves and each other. Your influence changes my life for the better every day. I cannot imagine life without you or my MAKIN’ MOVES Mamas, Sisters, Brothers, and Cupcakes.

Micaela Chabarria Barnes When I first walked in my eyes popped out of my head. I was scared and knew there was no way I could do this obstacle course. My Sunday family began with the first person being cheered for and we didn't stop until the last one finished. Since, January 4, I have had the privilege to be surrounded with people who are accepting, encouraging, and most of all supportive of all I do. We miss each other when we are gone and it has honestly been named MY MAKIN' MOVES Family! Thank you for your dream, because of it I'm slowly accomplishing mine.
"Since beginning MAKIN' MOVES in June 2014, my whole person has been uplifted. My confidence level has excelled immensely. My fitness journey! I came in with reservation but with an immediate hug, I was quickly accepted into the "family" and my perception changed. I'm in it for the long run." |

Some things I have learned about myself since starting MAKIN’ MOVES 4WARDFITNESS with Chris Omni. 1. I don’t count very well while trying to exercise. 2. I become directionally challenged while trying to count and exercise. 3. I struggle with naming animals, fruit and other things while calling out the alphabet during exercise. 4. Even with all of my counting, directional and naming challenges, I have a great time at MAKIN’ MOVES 4WARDFITNESS!! Thank you Chris for letting me join your dysFUNctional fitness family!! For those who are in the Topeka area, let me invite you to join MAKIN’ MOVES 4WARDFITNESS on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School, 1301 SE Monroe St, Topeka, KS (14th Street between Kansas Ave and Monroe Street). Anyone and Everyone of all ages, abilities and fitness levels are welcome!! My personal testimony. . . “This is the best ‘FUNercise’ you’ll ever have!!”

"I usually go to the gym 1 to 2 times a week for an hour when I don't come for your fitness experience. I do read labels and track my carbs. Because of MAKIN' MOVES holding fitness experiences it has inspired me to continue to look for opportunities to get my move on even if we don't meet! It has empowered me to take control of my health and you instill in all of us to believe in ourselves! Chris I have not weighed 185 for at least 30 years! Thank you so much for helping me improve the quality of my life! I am going to continue to make healthy food choices and lose another 20-30 pounds! Good news about my A1c's (blood sugar level) is 5.4 it was 6.5 three months ago when he diagnosed me with diabetes 2. Now he has downgraded that to pre-diabetic and no meds needed, yayyyyy!"

You've motivated me and I wanted to say THANKS! I ran this morning. That's right, ME! I'm sure I looked like a big blob running down the street but oh well! It felt great. Thanks for all you do.

"Hey. It's actually Tierra using my mother's FB. When my Mom first started coming to Makin' Moves, I went begrudgingly because I was afraid that my friends would find out and they would make fun of me. Ms. Chris Omni helped me understand that when you want to do something good to help yourself just "DO YOU" and don't let anyone hate on your healthy swag! Now I'm on Facebook cheezin' with my fam! #MAKINMOVES #DOYOU"

With your message of love and self acceptance....This song made me think of your class and I couldn't help but dance!

So, I've been a member of the MAKIN MOVES family for 4 weeks and let me tell you about the difference it's made!!
I couldn't even THINK about jogging or marching anywhere...much less in place! Crunches??? Out of the question! I was told that the only way I could exercise without pain to my knees was in water. Ummmm...HELLO!? I live in Kansas! Paying for a membership to a facility with a pool ...is out of the question too! BUT...last Sunday...I marched up and down the aisle in Hutchinson...with heels on...like it was nothing! For more than 5 minutes, knees up and everything! Every Saturday since January 4th, I've been walking farther, feeling better, and loving it! Tuesday's and Thursday's are challenging...to my body in a great way! I can do crunches, y'all!! I am looking forward to what's to come!

For the first time in my life, I genuinely felt like I might be able to commit myself to this class and to making the lifestyle changes that I needed to make to improve my health and my overall well-being. I have no choice but to lose weight and eat right literally my life may depend on it. I just wanted to thank you and everyone involved with the events and opportunities for better health and wellness. I truly think you all are doing amazing things and I for one am very grateful. I know you like to share so go ahead. Maybe my experience will prompt someone to get serious and take charge of their health and wellness. Michelle Carson Okay, today was a big day (in a little way). When I got to my PGTP group tonight there was an obstacle course set up. See those little orange hurdles? -They might as well have been competition height in my mind. I instantly thought no way...CAN'T hop over that--I got no vertcal...what about my knees...I'm too fat...all the tapes began playing. And the first time I attempted it--I modified it...didn't even really try one time to "hop" it. But then at the end of class Chris Omni challenged each of us to try one more time and give it our absolute best. The most amazing thing happened next...27 of us split into two groups. I strategically moved as close as I could to the back of the lined up group I was in. But here's when the awesomeness occurred the women began cheering and clapping crazily for each person as they entered the course. The energy was so contagious ..seeing each one with their own fitness battle step up to the challenge and deliver...I was both nervous and inspired. On my turn, I began running and. Then. I hopped! I hopped the first one...then the second one. And so on.. all six! What?!,! I'm sure my form left a lot to be desired and the hops were far from perfect. But I can say, in that brief moment, I gave my very best effort. I didn't hold back didn't worry about how I looked, if I was ready, or it was perfect. I can't explain how those six small obstacles were such a major breakthrough but I now KNOW--I can...I did...and I WILL! #aintnostoppinusnow#newthemesong #journeysisters4life |
